Two Ways to Style Sequins After the Holidays

While sequins may have a special place in our closets from December to January 1st, it can be fun to keep up the momentum even after the holidays are over. Working a bold sequined piece into your everyday style can be a great way to brighten up the gloomy winter days that often follow the holiday season. I also love partaking in post-holiday sales, so when nearly all of Banana Republic’s adorable holiday items were marked to down to 60% off, I couldn’t resist adding a few stunning pieces to my wardrobe.

A Few Simple Guidelines:

  • Pick out a a few casual staples that will help to tone down the sequins (think jeans, t-shirts, and chunky knits). While sequins may be on the formal side, pairing them with basic, comfortable pieces creates a polished look that is both functional and stylish.
  • Skip the heels and opt for a boot, sneaker, or flat.
  • Choose colors accordingly – wearing a bright colored sequined top? Keep the rest of the look simple with neutrals or more subdued colors. It also helps to find a complementary color. For my second look, I loved how the color of the coat subtly brought out the pink tones of the champagne colored sequins on the blouse.

However you decide to style your sequins, remember you’re not dressing up for a holiday party, so think about what you’re most comfortable in and go from there! While I was only able to showcase a few looks for this post, a few other options I love are styling a sequined top with a denim jacket or chambray shirt, wearing a sequined skirt with a classic white t-shirt knotted at the front, or pairing a sequined dress with a moto jacket and sneakers.
