Weekend Highlights

I hope everyone had a wonderful Labor Day! Among last week’s highlights include some purchases for fall, a few great movies and shows to stream, and a fun evening look with the cutest black jeans.

Summer into Fall

I’ve been surprised to see a slight drop in the temperature over the last couple weeks here in the Northeast. Usually we see pretty warm weather through most of September, but as of late we’ve had a couple cooler days and nights that have had me reaching for jeans and sweaters. This weekend was no exception, but I was more than happy to style a new pair of jeans that I grabbed on sale a few weeks ago. I was looking for a simple pair of black jeans for fall, and fell in love with this flared/boot cut style from Mango. They also come in a classic blue wash, and white, and they are still on sale for $30! Mango’s sizing tends to run small, so if you haven’t purchased denim from them before, I recommend sizing up. For reference, I normally wear a size 26 in jeans, but purchased this pair in a size 28, and other than a slight gap in the back (which I’ve unfortunately come to accept as a norm for a lot of jeans) they fit perfectly.

What to Stream

Trying, Apple – This lighthearted new series debuted on Apple this past May, and has been renewed for another season. After beginning it this past week, I immediately fell in love with the beautiful London backdrop, and playful antics between couple Nikki and Jason as they begin the daunting process of adoption. If you’re looking for an easy-to-watch comedy, definitely give it a try.

Teenage Bounty Hunters, Netflix – I’m not going to lie, I was initially very hesitant to try this one out, but the show’s focus on twins Blair and Sterlings’ sudden foray into the world of bounty hunting is actually quite funny and well done. This show is definitely not for everyone, but if you’re looking for a teen drama that dives deeper past the constraints of high school walls, Teenage Bounty Hunters is worth a watch.

The Peanut Butter Falcon, Hulu, Amazon – I’d been dying to see this film for months now, and was thrilled when I finally saw it on Hulu this weekend. If you haven’t yet seen or heard of this adventure tale, add it to your list immediately. The movie follows the story of Zak, a young man with Down Syndrome whose dream is to escape his sheltered life at a nursing home and become a pro wrester. Without giving too much away, it’s a truly heartwarming story in which you will absolutely be rooting for the characters from start to finish.

Palm Springs, Hulu – I actually watched this film shortly after it was released, but I wanted to add it to the list, as it’s the perfect movie to watch as we enjoy these last few nights of summer. A sun-drenched take on a classic time-loop premise, it’s scary how much this film aligns with the year we’ve had so far, but for me at least, it was a welcome distraction to seek solace in, and positively hilarious from start to finish. I know there’s been a lot of talk about this one already, so if you haven’t watched it yet, definitely add it to your list, and if you have, what did you think??

Fall Footwear Picks

I recently purchased an adorable pair of white mules from Aldo, and I love them so much I decided to get the same ones in black. If you’re looking for a chic and comfortable footwear staple for fall, I definitely recommend these. They run true to size, and they’re currently on sale!

Seriously obsessed with these turquoise Steve Madden Booties!

Coach has some really fun sneakers for fall, and I currently have my eye on this pair, as well as these super fun ones!

Shop Black CT

Shop Black CT is an awesome guide featuring over 900 black owned businesses in the state including everything from retail and restaurants, to salons and gyms. What’s great is that you can search the website by business category or location, depending on what you are looking for. One of my favorite locations featured in this guide is The Anchor Spa in New Haven. They have an amazing cocktail list as well as a creative menu including bar bites and larger entrees. They have indoor and outdoor seating, and happy hour is Wednesday through Friday, 4:00-7:00pm!

Outfit Details: Aerie top (old – love this similar style for fall), Mango Jeans, Target Sandals (also great options here and here), Sunglasses (sold out – similar option), Zara Purse (similar)
