Style Winter

Styling a Shacket

I mentioned how much I love my classic corduroy “shacket” from L.L. Bean in this post a few months back, but after seeing so many cute ones this season, and admiring the many ways in which they are being styled, I decided it was time to add another one to my closet. I love shackets for many reasons, but what draws me to them most is that they can be styled in multiple ways for several months out of the year. I always try to find essential staples that I know I can wear for years to come, but it’s even better when a piece can transition easily from fall to winter, and even spring (at least here in the Northeast). This is why I tend to gravitate towards basic neutral color palettes that I know will work well for any season.

I was excited to find this plaid jacket from Old Navy that has been so popular, it’s nearly sold out. I love the classic look, length, and slightly oversized fit. For the first time wearing it I decided to keep it casual with a pair of Levi’s and my favorite black boots, but the possibilities are seemingly endless when it comes to working a shacket into your wardrobe. Wear it with leather joggers and a pair of sneakers to elevate your everyday wear, or throw on your favorite pair of trousers and heels for a dressier look. Shackets are layering pieces, so don’t be afraid to experiment whether that means wearing it underneath a heavier coat, or over a thinner blouse or sweater.

Below I’ve highlighted all my favorite shackets this season for under $100 that would make great additions to any capsule wardrobe.
